Minutes- 1/24/11

District 10 Neighborhood Safety Committee

Monday, January 24, 2010  7:00-8:30 pm

 

Attendees: Pete Bolstad, Josh Witte (District 10 Safety Coordinator), Dolores Rufenacht (Safety Committee Chair)

 

Committee Chair Dolores Rufenacht called the meeting to order at 7 PM

 

I.                    Review of Agenda and Minutes:

Agreed to approve the agenda and minutes.

 

II.                  Chair Report:

Snow Removal Ordinance: Dolores reported bringing up the snow flyer ordinance link to the council meeting.  She is encouraging the office staff to put that link on the web site.  She also is encouraging that information to put hard copies of that information in a NSC binder to be kept in the office.

Neighborhood Crime Reports: Josh reported that there were 12 car thefts during 1/6-1/12 and one discharge of a weapon in that same period. 

   

III.                Staff Report:

January Community Police Meeting: Josh indicated there is a new investigative commander, Matt Topol who will be monitoring burglaries and other household thefts.   Officers reported that 65-70% of the thefts/burglaries are occurring during the day.

 

IV.                Action Items:

Block Club Meeting: Agreed to have the next Block Club meeting in March.  The meeting will occur on the same evening as the NSC meeting scheduled for 3/28.  Block Club meeting will begin at 6:30.  Dolores will invite Pam McCleary for the Block Club meeting to discuss crime prevention tips.

Children’s Bike Safety Rodeo:  Dolores indicated she will try to schedule this event in March/April. Committee will consider having the event at North Dale.  We will invite the following resources: Sibley Bike Depot, Bicycle Chain and Police Bike Patrol and Twin Cities Bicycle Club.  Dolores will be talking to Nicole (bike safety instructor) to be at this event.  Discussed tentative dates and decision will be determined based on Nicole’s schedule.  (April 16 and 30 were listed as possible dates)  Dolores will bring a book with different ideas for bicycle rodeos to the February NSC meeting.  Targeted ages for kids will be 6 and up.

2010 and 2011 Crime Prevention Work Plans: Reviewed 2010 Plan for accomplishments and agreed on goals for 2011. Dolores will forward this information to the Executive Committee.

Committee inserts into District 10 E-blasts:  Committee agreed to include NSC issues at least once a month.  Dolores proposed trying to send this information in the E-Blast one-week prior to the monthly NSC meeting.
