(Update) The Walk & Talk event was a great success! Neighbors from all around Como Park gathered at the Historic Streetcar station to enjoy some healthy snacks and chat with representatives from local businesses and organizations.

There was an awards ceremony for those in attendance who participated in the Walking Club Competition, and there were quite a few volunteers who grabbed garbage bags and picked up trash around the park and the lake as they walked. Thank you to everyone that helped organize or sponsor this event, including the nursing students from Metropolitan State University as well as Census 2010. We hope to have a similar event in the future.

Come join friends and neighbors for a community walk around Como Lake! This event will take place from 9 AM to noon on Saturday, April 10. Anyone who would like to participate in the walk around the lake should meet up at the Historic Streetcar Station beginning at 9 AM to register. At 9:15, winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded to members of the various teams who have participated in the walking club competition. The walk will begin at around 9:30. This is a pet-friendly event.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided upon returning to the Streetcar Station. Free Census 2010 pedometers will also be distributed before the walk (while supplies last). There will also be a variety of resource booths from local businesses and organizations, including information on community services and nutrition, as well as free blood pressure screenings.

The spring neighborhood cleanup is also taking place on the morning of the event, so we will have bags available for those who would like to help pick up trash during the lake walk.

This event is hosted by the District 10 Como Community Council & Metropolitan State University Nursing Students, and is sponsored, in part, by Census 2010.
