4 The St. Paul Senior Chore Service is an organization that understands the issues facing older adults and persons with disabilities who want to remain in their homes. They connect people to volunteers to assist them with chores such as leaf raking, mowing, snow shoveling, minor repairs. They also have connections with groups that will do house painting, both inside and out, depending on the season. They are always looking for people to assist and young people as paid workers. http://sapcc.org/senior for more info.
5 The Saint Paul Second Shift Youth Commission is the place for young people in Saint Paul to have a voice at city hall! Youth Commissioners work along side other youth and adults in city government and in the community to solve community issues and make Saint Paul the most livable city in America. The Youth Commission is currently working on community mapping, college access, and discrimination. The Youth Commission is made up of 22 youth from neighborhoods across Saint Paul.
To be a part of the city-wide youth commission I must:
• Live in the City of Saint Paul
• Be in 9th - 12th grade while serving on the commission
• Commit 6-10 hours a month and be able to meet on Monday nights
• Have the desire to make Saint Paul the best city to grow up in.
• For more information check out the Youth Commission online click here ! Or contact Phil Rooney, (651) 247-5538 or phil.rooney@ci.stpaul.mn.us
6 Come have a conversation with a Como Park’s gardener, Erik Olsen. He will be discussing putting your garden to bed for the winter, collecting/swapping seeds, and winter composting. Sunday November 8, 7pm, Java Train.
7 When the City Council passed its updated
billboard ordinance, the ordinance contemplated a follow up
resolution to identify high priority billboards across the city that
should be removed if the billboard companies want to exchange them
for dynamic display signs. The city council would like to pass a
resolution that includes, in additional to zoning staff
recommendations, other high priority locations from which billboards
should be removed. They would like each district council to identify
2-3 billboards that they would most like to see removed. If you would like to give input on this you can either attend the next land use meeting on Nov. 9th , 7pm, Java Train, or send an e mail tochris.harkness@district10comopark.org . To see billboards in our neighborhood go to: www.scenicsaintpaul.org/shame.html
8 Next Parking meeting to address parking and more specifically the proposed permit parking area on the west side of the park is on November 17, 7pm, Street Car Station.
Here are next week’s meetings:
Wed. Nov. 4- Executive
Thursday Nov. 5-Neighborhood Relations
