        District 10 Como Community Council 

                                          Board Meeting, 7:00 p.m., April 17, 2007 

                                     Streetcar Station,  1224 N. Lexington Parkway 

 

         Minutes 

 

1. Vice- chair Nathan Volz called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m.  Board members in 

attendance were:  Dennis O’Rourke, Tony Schaps, Kay Plese, Sehoya Cotner, Jeremy 

Lostetter, Greg Hrncirik and Nancy Sabin.   Excused: Jeremy Lostetter, Sharon Frisell, 

Sarah MacRunnels, Billy Dinkel.  Absent: Luke Kuhl and Bart Polasek.  

 

There was no quorum.  

 

2. Committee reports were made.  Nancy Sabin announced a crime prevention opportunity 

scheduled for April 24. 

 

Dennis O’Rourke discussed meetings he and Chet Mirocha attended with state fair 

administrator Jerry Hammer and Mike Hahm, Como Campus manager.  Mr.  Hammer 

talked about Como park shuttle possibilities at the fair grounds, they’re open to all but a 

few weekends per year.    They also discussed the shuttle with Mr. Hahm, who’s reluctant 

to put a shuttle in place without use restrictions due to state fair events.     

 

Greg Hrncirik talked about the Crime Watch committee, discussed the “participation 

piece” of the committee, for example a possible self- defense class and the free garage 

number program.   Greg would like to make better connections with block leaders.    

 

Nathan Volz talked about the CIB Streets Task Force and where Victoria street work had 

been ranked.    Dennis O’Rourke asked if there was any more information about Sholom 

Home.  Kay Plese had a question about senior housing needs.  There seemed to be 

agreement that senior housing needs were important.  Nathan noted “life style” housing 

was recommended in the Neighborhood Plan.   Nathan updated Board members on the 

Java Train and K and L Auto Sales status. 

 

Tony discussed training committee chairs to do web site postings.   The Board discussed 

communication and sources for crime statistics.   

 

The meeting was adjourned at 8 pm.  

 

Board training was discussed from 8 to 9 p.m.
