The Como neighborhood provides many rich opportunities for you to share your time and skills as a community volunteer. The District 10 Community Council, its committees, and community partners provide regular events that need and want your help. Annual District 10 events are the Neighborhood Clean-up and Neighborhood Garage Sale. Neighborhood volunteer participation is also needed in citywide events such as National Night Out and the Spring Parks Clean-up. But District 10 Committees have their own events too.
For example, the Environment Committee plans and/or participates in a variety of invasive species removal events in Como Park woodlands: garlic mustard in the spring, burdock in the summer, buckthorn in the fall. Environment Committee members also help maintain Como Lake’s shoreline plantings as well as the wildflower garden just north of the Como Lakeside Pavilion and the neighborhood water-quality gardens. Como Park’s natural areas are always in need of new volunteers.
But your good ideas as well as your labor are also needed in planning new initiatives and events – so please contact the District 10 office or the committee of your choice and ask how you can get involved as a community volunteer.
