Saint Paul Parks and Recreation has released its request for proposals for new management for the Como Lakeside Pavilion.

Formal proposals are due on Jan. 4. The city expects new managers, who would replace Como Dockside, to be operating by spring 2018.

The city’s RFP says “partnerships are highly encouraged." It asks vendors to break out their plans for “year-round and seasonal offerings and services”; different “business centers” (such as a restaurant, catering, and outside land and lake operations); and hours, menus, and prices.

Proposals will be evaluated on a 1,000-point scale in six categories, including business plan and vision, experience, and community engagement. City officials will make the final decision, but an independent committee will evaluate all proposals. The evaluation committee will include representatives from the Como Community Council; Wards 1, 4, and 5; and various government agencies.

See the Pavilion website for more details on the process. You can download the RFP as a PDF from the right column.

More than 70 people attended a community open house on Nov. 27 to gather residents' ideas about what should replace Como Dockside at the Lakeside Pavilion. In addition, more than 40 people submitted written comments to Saint Paul Parks and Recreation. You can read the summaries by downloading the PDFs from the right column. The parks department expects to release a formal request for proposals this week, seeking vendors interested in managing the pavilion beginning in spring 2018.

Como Dockside shut down Nov. 22.
