District 10 Como Community Council Environment Committee
2010 Accomplishments and 2011 planned events/projects
2010 Successes:
-
Held our first ever District Wide Tree Recognition Program. We recognized three outstanding trees in the District to raise awareness of our trees.

Conducted a Garden tour in association with the District 10 Staycation. Approximately 20 homes opened their gardens to over 60 visitors during the Garden Tour in July.

Hosted a Compost Workshop with Eureka Recycling where 20 people learned about how to compost.

Held the Tree Trek in Como Park in June, educating people about trees in the park. Approximately 10 people attending.

Maintaining and improving the Native Garden at the Como Pavilion.

Assisted the Parks and Recreation Department with the Como Park Cleanup. Had over 300 volunteers to help pick up trash in Como Park.

Assisted the Como Lake Neighborhood Network (CLNN) in a street cleanup to help remove leaves from streets to help reduce algae growth in the lake.

Lake Como Shoreline Weeding Events. Held two weeding events in July and September with approximately 25 people helping remove weeds from the Lake Como shoreline.
2011 Goals:

Continue the District Tree Recognition Program.

Conduct a Garden Tour this summer.

Hold the Tree Trek in June.

Work with Parks and Rec to conduct the Como Park Cleanup.

Work with Parks and Rec to conduct Shoreline Weedings.

Work with the CLNN on the next street cleanup.

Continue Native Garden maintenance.

Hold a rainbarrel workshop and/or fundraiser.

Conduct a turtle study of Lake Como.
