Wes Farrow

Wesley Farrow is a new addition to Como Park from Metro Detroit by way of Los Angeles. Wesley originally moved to California as a special education algebra teacher at Locke High School in Watts, which soon led to a position as Dean of Students at Belvedere Middle School in East Los Angeles. After accepting a Coro Fellowship, he worked as West Coast Manager at the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights. Most recently, Wesley served as Executive Director of Coro Southern California.

During his decade in Los Angeles, Wesley served in various capacities on L.A.'s neighborhood councils. Between the Greater Echo Park Elysian and the Del Rey neighborhood councils, he has held elected and appointed roles of treasurer, district representative, and committee chair.

Wesley's favorite moments from his time on the Los Angeles neighborhood councils include supporting local educators and students to change district policy on unwarranted classroom searches, organizing constituencies around preservation and responsible redevelopment of the local Ballona wetlands, and being invited by President Obama to a reception at the White House as part of the Young Elected Officials Network.

Wesley is an educator at heart, a civic innovator by nature, and serial entrepreneur at work. He holds the honorary position of Director of International Affairs for Woman and Children's Agenda in Northern Uganda, and has served in board and leadership capacities at the South L.A. Worksource Center, United Teachers Los Angeles, Leadership for Educational Equity Los Angeles' Regional Strategy Team, Coro Southern California, and Powerline, an innovative civic engagement platform.

Wesley is a proud graduate of the University of Michigan, where he now serves as vice president of the rugby team’s booster club. His wife, Risha, is a new addition to the faculty at the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital. Their puppy, Red, is a native Minnesotan, so one of Wesley's most pressing projects is to become an informed fan of the Golden Gophers and Minnesota Wild.
