Melissa Brannon, At-Large
I have been living in the Lake Como neighborhood for almost four years now and love it! I enjoy being part of a vibrant community that includes people from a variety of backgrounds. Our community has so much to offer and keeping it a safe place for everyone is very close to my heart.
I am married, have a teenage son who currently is enrolled at Como High School and have two dogs, Duke and Dutchess. I currently work full-time as a Case Worker III for The Salvation Army-Eastside Corps and have been with them for a year and a half. I also oversee our Pathway of Hope program, which is an intensive case work program which allows me to work with families on a personal level and to help them set and reach their goals. I help with the food shelf process, coordinating of food deliveries with Metro Mobility, and help clients with rental assistance, heat assistance, etc.
In addition, I am employed with RS Eden in their sober community housing programs and have been doing that for four years. There, I offer resources and positive solutions to those who need it. This supports the residents’ sobriety and goal achievements. In my spare time, I attend MICAH (Metropolitan Interfaith Council on Affordable Housing) meetings and events whenever possible. I would love to bring my knowledge, experiences, and resources with me to the District Council seat and to be able to serve our amazing community.
In May 2018, I graduated from Century College with an A.S. in Criminal Justice. I also received a diploma as a Community Health Worker from Summit Academy OIC. I have a passion for helping people who have had personal struggles and are trying to gain stability for themselves by helping them find jobs, housing, and other community resources.
I have two passions: 1) working towards affordable housing for all and 2) creating a safe community where everyone feels welcome. I would love to bring my knowledge, experiences, and resources with me to the District Council position, in order to serve our amazing community. Thank you for your consideration.
