Neighborhood Relations & Safety Committee
June 14, 2012
Historic Streetcar Station

Members Present: Ted Blank, Dolores Rufenacht
Members Excused: Laurie Erickson
Members Absent: Betsy Wehrwein
Staff Present: Jessie Bronk

The meeting was called to order at 7pm and minutes from the May 2012 meeting were approved.

Dog Safety
Blank and Panod Klongtruatoke will meet with neighborhood resident Peter Barry before the next committee to follow up on his concerns about current dog safety enforcement in the City of St. Paul.

Hamline/Nebraska Crosswalk
The committee received an email from Councilmember Russ Stark detailing Public Works’ conclusion that a curb bump out is the best option to calm traffic at this intersection. The committee is concerned that this solution will not solve the underlying problem and will solicit neighborhood feedback at its September meeting. A representative from Public Works will be strongly encouraged to attend.

Neighborhood Garage Sale
The 11th Annual Neighborhood Garage Sale was held on May 19, with 71 registered sales and revenue of $710. The committee reviewed an evaluation survey draft which will be distributed to participants in June.

Como Fest
The committee will solicit volunteers from the District 10 board to staff a D10 informational table at two events during ComoFest – the Lyngblomsten Summer Festival on July 19 and the Art Fair on July 21.

2012 Initiatives
• Block Club Program
o Seven block group leaders attended the quarterly meeting in June. They are working on creating an updated list of leaders and conducting a Survey Monkey survey of leaders in September.
o National Night Out will be Tuesday August 7, 2012. Bronk has provided event registration packets to interested block club leaders. Blank will draft a letter to solicit donations from local businesses for D10-sponsored gift bags.
• Business Alliance
• Housing Forum
o Saturday October 13 has been selected as for the planned housing forum.
• Neighborhood Needs Assessment
o Blank and Chris Harkness discussed the needs assessment process that the District Ad-Hoc Planning Committee will employ and possibilities for collaboration later this year.

Follow Ups from May Meeting
Blank reported that the City had removed the graffiti on dozens of signs around Lake Como.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:55pm.
