Community Discussion
• Next Door now has function to allow interaction with near neighborhoods.
• Lao Family Festival
• Snelling bridge over Como
o Posts on the South Como Facebook page contained only a couple of negative
comments.  Many positive comments. Far more positive comments from community than
the car show.
o Suggestion to reach out to Lao Family and invite to a D10 meeting so we can maintain a
good relationship.
o Bill provided information on early discussion regarding a potential Snelling reconstruction
project that would dramatically change the intersection of Snelling and Como.  There are
no plans yet but a community desire to remain in the planning loop.
Como Fest
• July 18 – 20 – NOTE: we still need volunteers for setup and take down on Saturday the 20
• We have raised approximately $2500 for event.  New reusable banner, 25 yard signs, 15
garden tour signs and 500 give away bags purchased.
• This event has been a lot of work for Ted
• Lessons learned / additional items to be discussed in more detail at next meeting
o Lyngblomsten receives funding from Legacy Amendment. We should look into early for
next year as lead time is needed.
o Discuss recognition for volunteers that put in significant time for this event
Como Business Network
• Kick-off meeting was held on June 19.  A diverse group of 25 local business representatives –
from a bank VP to a daycare owner.  Thanks to Laurie Erickson for donating refreshments.
• Group settled on two event tracks:
o First Thursdays!  Monthly breakfast meetings will be the first Thursday of each month.
Next meeting will be sponsored by Como Park Grill and rotate there after.
o Quarterly luncheon. This will be modeled after a chamber of commerce luncheon with
goal to include a program and speaker.  Targeting first quarter of 2014 to kickoff.
Community Crime Prevention Meeting
• Several Block leaders in the Como area requested this meeting which was held at Holy
Childhood.  It was similar to the one held last fall/winter in the east Como area.
• Pam M and Commander Porter attended along with 30 residents.
• Topics included:
o General burglary prevention tips
o Graffiti reporting and resolution tips
o Police Summer Lemonade stand is targeted for this year yet.
o Traffic and speed concerns in some areas could use calming measures
o Locksmith provide excellent tips
• Much discussion regarding potential fundraising ideas.
• Goal for this fall is to potentially host a “Chili Feed” that includes a silent auction.
o Ted will reach out to Job Corp to see if feasible as desire is to gear towards adult crowd
and offer beer and wine.  If this doesn’t work for them, we will approach Black Bear
o Idea is to sell a ticket that covers chili, appetizer / baked goods and one drink ticket.
Open bar would be available for additional purchases.
o Silent auction ideas needed too
o What’s our theme?  How should we promote this event to maximize potential for
ß Topics of interest to draw attention to services / benefits provided by D10
ß Communication fund / newsletter support
ß Support the community gardens – costs of new plants and maintenance
• Traditional pancake breakfast is also be considered if the Chili Feed does not work out.
Block Leaders Meeting
• Topics for on July 29
o National Night Out
o Field trip to 911 center
o Structure of block leaders – work on a core responsibility list
o Como Curb Cleanup
Crime Maps
• Ted has shared Google map link with Block Leaders that shows bi-weekly crime stats for our
neighborhood.  Good feedback received.  Plan is to continue to share with Block Leaders and
also to include the links on D10 webpage going forward.
National Night Out
• August 6
• Ted has been communicating sign up information with the Block Leaders.  City of St Paul has
tools to help and really wants all groups to sign up for reporting purposes.
• If anyone takes pictures at your local NNO event, please send them to Ted.
Discussion / agenda topic for next meeting:  Welcome to the neighborhood!  Ted has connected with St
Paul Regional Water Services for list of new hookups.  How do we welcome them to the neighborhood?
Meeting adjourned at 8:10
